I keep thinking I’ve hit rock bottom and then another week goes by with my stats falling further. Since a holiday and a bout of illness I have struggled to get back on my once successful path. It is a common trend that these kinds of disruptions are often the cause of my abandonment of habits followed by a challenging effort to return to them. Once the feelings of failure and frustration set it, it becomes almost futile to try anymore but I’m to not give up on the path, or writing the blog, like two previous occasions. I have to keep trying, and keep blogging, to figure out how to overcome this.

I have a long to-do list to attempt which I will start tomorrow and continue with until it’s finished. I have punctuated it with meals and treats to keep me going. I’m hoping it will put me in position for a good week returning to my habits. This was meant to happen last weekend but I ended up idling the whole time. I went to gym twice but I skipped all my gym classes for one reason or another.

Without a doubt, this appears to be the worst week ever. I think it is due to the fact I returned from holiday on the Monday and started to get ill towards the rest of the week. This week was going to be my ‘perfect week’ but my head cold has caused me to cancel a lot of gym classes and exhaustion in the evenings has meant early nights and skipping evening habits. Everything is now in place to have a great active week with plenty of hydration and routine. I’m even successfully counting calories and seeing some weight loss. I just need to get this cold out the way so I have energy again for my exercise and motivation to complete my habits before bedtime.

So all my stats are down because I spent most of last week in Amsterdam on holiday. They are not too bad considering I was not that active. Funnily, sleep is up because I finally got to wake up when I want to and not when the alarm dictates. This week finds me trying to return to my yoga and pilates classes, gym three times a week in the morning and attempting a 5k weekly. The stats should soar.

In a desperate attempt to lose weight still, and the plant-based diet book failing to captivate me, I have abandoned all dogma and returned to simply counting calories. I watched a great Google Talk which said ‘forget everything until you can master your calorie consumption’. The fact that I haven’t lost any weight regardless of the diets and cleanses I’ve attempted suggests that whatever I’m doing I’m finding a way to consume too many calories. Instead I’m using my Fitbit app to monitor my calories in vs calories out. If I follow a restricted 1000 calories a day, I could lose up to 2 lbs a week and reach my target weight of 130 lbs by June.

My weight is really all that is holding me back from turning to the next chapter on my path to perfection.

Day 92- FITBIT UPDATE

Surprisingly, my Fitbit stats are all up this week except for my water which I thought had really improved. Nevermind, maybe last week was rock bottom and it’s all uphill from here.

NEW HABIT: Walk to and from work whenever possible

Update: I have not succeeded with this yet. I’m hoping the warmer weather and addiction to exercise will encourage this soon

My stats just keep going down but I’ve been focusing on my sleep and it appears to be working. I know I’m drinking more water when I’m at work but because I’ve been on holiday it has faltered. I will keep going with my sleep and water improvements but now I think it is time to get these steps up. I’m tempted to wait for winter to be over but it just keeps being mild and I’m wasting the opportunities. From Thursday I’ve decided to walk to and from work unless it’s absolutely is pouring down with rain or I need to car for some reason before or after work. It should add about 5000 steps a day to my daily steppage.  I’ll also save petrol money which would be good.

“From Thursday I will walk to and from work if possible, and if weather permits”

Day 51- FITBIT UPDATE: Walk to local shops

Last week was the first time I created a Fitbit habit to improve my Fitbit statistics. Since then, I have been making sure that I drink a litre of water at work every day. Here’s last week’s results:

As you can see, there was little advancement apart from the increase in water consumption. But that’s okay because that is what this challenge is all about. With each new habit completed, it is inevitable that the statistics improve. Now I have to pick another new habit to see improvement in a category next week. The rule is I have to pick something in red that I did poorly in.

NEW HABIT: Walk to local precinct instead of using my car

I’m limited with the options I have to improve on. It’s either more steppage or exercise and at the moment, at this time of year, that’s really challenging. All I can think of now, that is achievable, is promising to walk to my local precinct instead of using the car. I often go straight from work and have to pay an 80p car park charge. This habit means I’ll get steps and save money.

“I will always walk to the local shops instead of taking the car”

Update: I have abandoned this habit because it has proved really inconvenient. I’m just not ready or organised enough to make the commitment.

Day 37- NEW HABIT: Fitbit

NEW HABIT: Wear my Fitbit everyday

I love my Fitbit. I love statistics. I love competition. I love improvement and measuring. When I’m depressed or procrastinating, I can easily stop wearing my Fitbit. Sometimes I’m too lazy to even charge it. Even when I do wear it, sometimes I don’t care or even try to achieve anything. Other times, I’m competing hard, doing anything I can to get more steps than the next person, finding every opportunity I can to walk or run.

This post is my commitment to wearing my Fitbit everyday, and always aspiring to improve on the week before, until I reach my desired goals. Every week, I will report my progress and create a habit that will help me reach my end goals listed below. Another habit I need to create is to remember to charge the Fitbit every Sunday. It will usually last a week.

“I will wear my Fitbit everyday and charge it Sunday nights”
